·       Aerial Motion Pictures partners with the National Film and Television School to launch a drone course for the industry

·       ICARUS Media Course covers theory and practical experience to help film professionals secure all-important drone operator license

·       Three-day course, to be the first of its kind in the UK

AERIAL MOTION PICTURES the Oxfordshire-based company that pioneered the UK’s first Independent Commercial Drone Training Course, is partnering with the world leading National Film and Television School to launch a new short course for 2017.

The Drone Qualification Course In Partnership with Aerial Motion Pictures (AMP) Home of Fly ICARUS* Commercial Drone Training School takes place between the 22nd and 24th May 2017 and provides expert advice, theory and practical experience to help camera operators and directors of photography to get closer to the action than ever before.

The three-day course has been crafted by Matt Williams, MD of Aerial Motion Pictures, and his colleague, Operations Director Callum Bannister, specifically to appeal to film and television professionals.

Said Matt: “It is fantastic to be partnering with the NFTS whose reputation speaks for itself. We know ourselves through our own aerial production work that getting as close to the action as possible is easier and more cost-effective using a drone operated camera than a traditional crane. But without the proper training, it’s impossible to fully understand what a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is capable of capturing or to get the permissions needed to operate legally.”

Added Callum: “This new course has been tailored specifically to cover off all the relevant technical know-how as well as practical advice needed to operate a drone successfully for commercial film and TV purposes.”

Head of NFTS Short Courses, Peter Ansorge, said, “We’re delighted to partner with AMP to deliver this exciting new short course, the first of its kind aimed at film and television industry professionals. As use cases for drones increase, it is essential that film and television professionals get to grips with what they can accomplish with this kind of equipment and how to operate it safely and legally.”

About the National Film and Television School

The NFTS is one of the world's leading film, games and television schools. It has been cited by some media, as one of the top five film schools globally and by one as the No.1 international film school. In 1967, the Government recommended the creation of a national film school for the UK and in 1971 the National Film School opened its doors for the first time, focusing on postgraduate education. In the 1980s, the school officially changed its name to the National Film and Television School to incorporate the demand for courses in television production and has since added games to its remit.

NFTS prides itself on producing world-class, award-winning industry leaders. It has more Student Academy Awards (Foreign Category) than any other film school. NFTS students and graduates also regularly win BAFTAs and have won the short film category for the last three years. Other prestigious accolades include the Grierson Award for Best Student Documentary, which NFTS students have won for the last three years as well as multiple Royal Television Society student awards and Annecy Animation Awards. NFTS graduates have gone on to win seven Oscars and 100 BAFTAs with alumni including cinematographer, Roger Deakins (12 times Oscar nominee); BAFTA winning director, David Yates, (best known for directing the Harry Potter films); Oscar winning animator Nick Park (creator of Wallace & Gromit) and Oscar winning composer Dario Marianelli among others.
